Woman killed and dog injured in plow truck accident

The winter is a dangerous time of year for people in every state, even in Alaska where snow and ice are common. Sometimes, horrible incidents happen where people are killed or badly injured as a result of the weather and how the weather is handled in their areas.

Take for example this woman's case. A 57-year-old woman was killed when a snowplow truck struck her as it was backing up. The woman had been returning from a walk with her dog when he backed into her. The dog survived, but it was injured in the collision.

At the time of the crash, the woman was wearing dark clothing. That shouldn't have mattered, though. According to Alaskan law, the truck should have had a reflective device on the plow blade as well as a light. The driver had not been using rear-facing spotlights, according to the lawsuit, and the backup alarm was not working.

The driver of the truck admitted that the backup alarm had not been working at the time of the crash. He did stay at the scene while waiting for the police to arrive.

A video showed that the woman had been walking back to her car when the truck backed over her. The video footage can be entered as evidence in the case to support the lawsuit's claims.

Crashes like this one are avoidable. When people violate the law or don't use safety measures, they put others in danger. If you're hurt because of negligence, you also retain a right to pursue a claim against the dangerous driver.
